I unike utstillingslokaler på Grünerløkka kan du nå oppleve 25 kjente norske kvinner, avfotografert på en måte som du aldri tidligere har sett dem. Etter over 23 år i norsk presse har fotograf Lisbeth Michelsen lett fram sin egen stemme, og tatt kunstfotografier som er både oppsiktsvekkende og vakre. Bildene har blitt til i tett samarbeid med damene, og viser fram ulike former for kvinnelighet.

Med forestillingen Bitterfitta på Parkteatret Scene i Oslo introduserer vi barnevognteater: teater for voksne, der man kan ta med seg babyen. Omtrent som Babykino, bare teater og du kan til og med få barnevakt om den lille sover.

Bitterfitta er en forestilling for alle, som har fått barn eller kan forestille seg å få det en dag. Om likestilling, kjærlighet, brystbetennelse, Tenerife, og de tingene man tenker, men ikke snakker om. Manuset er basert på den svenske bestselger-romanen Bitterfittan av Maria Sveland, og har tidligere vært iscenesatt både i Sverige og Danmark med stor suksess.

The discourse of natural beauty as linked to the sphere of art opens onto a field of ethics and social responsibility that harkens back to Kantian aesthetics. Yet, natural beauty as a concept primarily located within the phenomenon of landscape was significantly transformed by the process of societal modernisation that took place in the twentieth century. The experience of landscape consequently shifted from the Kantian category of the sublime to the space of leisure time – a space in which the experience of landscape became mediated by a human and technological mastery over nature.

‘BIG SIGN – LITTLE BUILDING’ is an exhibition that invites a discussion about the expanded temporal and spatial field for cultural production resulting from these shifts. The exhibition introduces a wider field of inquiry as pursued by the radical artists and architects who throughout the 1960s and into the 70s explored how the aesthetic experience of nature within modernity arrived at the perception of the expressiveness of nature through the expressiveness in things. In doing so, their respective investigations reflected upon the loss of faith in innate beauty and evolved into an aesthetic experience of landscape as one no longer located within the ‘towering mountains eloquent in what they crush overwhelmingly’, but instead as projections of space liberated beyond the proliferation of artificial things.

The exhibition departs from and extends beyond a seminal project developed by the architects Robert Venturi, Denise Scott Brown and Steven Izenour, who, in their book Learning from Las Vegas (1972), drew from existing critiques of urban space at the time to explore the role that signs played in providing order to the landscape. Originating as an architectural studio project conducted at Yale in 1968 (and eventually informally labeled ‘The Great Proletarian Cultural Locomotive’), the mission of the project was ‘to document and analyse the physical form of Las Vegas in order to learn from contemporary urban sprawl.’ As an articulation of a space contesting the hegemony of Euclidean space, this approach also intrigued artists such as Charlotte Posenenske, Ed Ruscha, Robert Smithson, and Jeff Wall, who further challenged such traditional notions of space in order to explore new interpretations of landscape within the fields of aesthetics, art and architecture without succumbing to any one category. Other artists, such as Claes Oldenburg and Allan D’Arcangelo, cited as inspiration by the three architects, contested the sign system altogether, which increasingly reflected an attempt on the part of capital to claim nature, landscape, and public space as commodities.

‘BIG SIGN – LITTLE BUILDING’ exhibits, for the first time, the original glass lantern slides used by Steven Izenour for his academic lectures together with works by artists who transformed drafts, surveys, maps, and manuals into cultural artifacts, creating a new genre for cultural production at the time. Through the work of Allan D’Arcangelo, Claes Oldenburg, Charlotte Posenenske, Ed Ruscha, Robert Smithson, and Jeff Wall, among other archival materials and publications, the exhibition integrates projects that revised interpretations of landscape, building, and monument. The exhibition reflects upon how these artists and architects attempted to dislocate traditional interpretations of these concepts in an effort to generate a critical dialogue around the effects of power inscribed in public information generated by the city and by the hierarchies, standardisations, and space-time relationships effected by corporate development.

‘BIG SIGN – LITTLE BUILDING’, curated by OCA’s Director Marta Kuzma, is dedicated to the memory of Steven Izenour and made possible by the generous efforts of John Izenour and loans of work from Venturi, Scott Brown & Associates, John Izenour, Claes Oldenburg, Jeff Wall, Estate of Allan D’Arcangelo, Estate of Charlotte Posenenske, Nicole Verstraeten-Daled, Frank Mosvold and Sørlandets Kunstmuseum, Nasjonalmuseet for Kunst, Arkitektur og Design, and Barney & Astrid Rosset. The exhibition will be accompanied by a publication printed by the time of the exhibition closing in Oslo.

Filmen har vunnet Oscar for beste animerte kortfilm. Operaorkestret gir filmen tonefølge med Prokofjevs spennende, naive, morsomme og beskrivende musikk, som han komponerte nettopp til dette eventyret. Her blir du kjent med Peter og vennene hans: en fugl, en katt og en and, som skal lure en stor og slu ulv. Tror du de klarer det? Her blir det action, fantasi og magi både på filmlerretet i orkestret – og kanskje også i salen?

Med utgivinga av Goethes brevroman Unge Werthers lidingar (1774) fekk Europa si første litterære superstjerne. Ungdommar kledde seg som tittelhelten og hans ulukkelege kjærleik Lotte, parfymen Eau de Werther blei lansert, debatten rasa i samfunnet og ei sjølvmordsbølge ramma dei mest kjenslevare lesarane. Er myten sterkare enn melankolien? Panelet som vil diskuterer dette m.. er: Kjersti Bale, Helge Jordheim og Knut Andreas Grimstad, litteraturvitarar ved Universitetet i Oslo.

«Ved å skrive sant om et land, produserer landet noe godt», hevder den somaliske forfatteren Nuruddin Farah. Han er en av Afrikas fremste litterære stemmer, en stemme preget av et liv i eksil, etter at han i 1974 skrev sant om Siad Barres regime og ble tvunget i landflyktighet. Farah er fortsatt opptatt av hjemlandets politiske og sosiale problemer og har gjort det til et uttalt prosjekt å holde Somalia levende gjennom sin litteratur.

Farah er som få andre menn engasjert i kvinners liv og kampen mot kjønnslemlestelse. Han er kjent for sine skildringer av sterke kvinner i patriarkalske samfunn, og allerede i 1970 oppnådde han kultstatus verden over med romandebuten From a Crooked Rib, hvor nomadejenta Ebla flykter fra et arrangert ekteskap med en eldre mann. Den somaliske forfatteren nevnes stadig som en aktuell kandidat til Nobelprisen, og i 1998 fikk han den prestisjetunge Neustadt International Prize for Literature. I Norge er Farah kanskje mest kjent for romanene Sprukne landskap og Lenker. Sistnevnte ble i 2005 utropt til årets viktigste roman på norsk av Dagbladets anmelder: «en roman som går på blodige stumper og beinpiper, en fortelling om et Somalia i oppløsning, men samtidig en stor roman om den menneskelige vev som holder samfunn sammen.» Samtaleleder denne kvelden er Asta Busingye Lydersen.

Dette er den andre dagen på rad Nuruddin Farah opptrer på Litteraturhuset. Tirsdag 21.september arrangerer vi, i anledning Leseåret, et forfattermøte på somali for Oslos norsksomaliske miljø.

Etter arrangementet er det Onsdagskjeller med egen bar, spill, bøker og musikk i Kjelleren. Denne onsdagen kan du høre Gunnhild Øyehaugs spilleliste «WOW».

Ungdomsromanen av Johann Wolfgang von Goethes Die Leiden des Jungen Werthers, Unge Werthers lidingar er eit av dei store og retningsgjevande verka i verdslitteraturen, og kanskje er romanen den første bestseljaren i litteraturhistoria. Etter den første utgjevinga i 1774 blei romanen raskt omsett til ei rekkje språk. Den unge Werther gjorde Goethe berømt og blei symbol på eit ungdomsopprør mot opplysingstidas kalde fornuft.

Handlinga er enkel. Werther reiser ut på landet for å finne ro. I eit idyllisk miljø forelskar han seg i Lotte. Den unge jenta er allereie trulova og Wertehers forelsking blir meir og meir panisk. Han forsøker å flykte, vender tilbake til henne, og oppdagar at Lotte har gifta seg med den utkåra. Det endar med at Werther skyt seg. Slik blir kjærleiken til Lotte både den største opplevinga i Werthers unge og korte liv og undergangen hans.

Denne plata inneholder fullt øs saxstøy med overtoner slik du aldri har hørt før. Dag lover han ikke vil holde tilbake noe på konserten. Plata er på det vidunderlige format kassett utgitt på labelen Taperape. Kassetten er en c20 kallt Turpentine Intoxicated Tape Rape og er trykkt i 100 eksklusive eksemplarer. Oskar Linnros slapp sin etterlengtede solodebut “Vilja Bli” tidligere i sommer og har tatt Sverige med storm. Nå er det Norge og BLÅ sin tur. Oskars nye singel “Från och med Du” har lenge vært på førsteplass på Sveriges iTunes liste og det er den mest spilte låta på radio. I norge spilles han på P1 of litt på P3.

Well, he also released a CDR on Ambolthue Records earlier this year called Monolithic Time , but this is something completely different. Here you’ll get full on sax noise and overtones like you’ve never heard them before, and it’s all on the wonderful format, tape. It’s a C20 called Turpentine Intoxicated Sax Rape and it’ll be out on Tape Rape Records and is limited to only a 100 copies with beautiful squiddy artwork. Of course it will be available tonight and you’ll even save a few kroner if you get it today. If you can’t wait to hear this wonderful sax noise, you can listen to an excerpt on his MySpace

Tuba! Tuba I tell ya! Børre plays the wonderful tuba, and for those who doesn’t know, he’s a part of Art Directors, No Spaghetti Edition and Circulasione Totale Orchestra amongst others. Nothing online to show his solo work, so this will be a surprise for everyone who hasn’t heard him play solo before, and for those who has it’ll be a lovely déjà vu.

Nytt album ute: Dream Get Together

Citay is a San Francisco band currently released on Dead Oceans. The band was formed in 2004 by Ezra Feinberg as a studio project with Tim Green from The Fucking Champs, and some help from others. There is now a live band including members of Tussle, The Dry Spells, Sean Smith, 3 Leafs, and Daevid Allen’s University of Errors.
