OAF får spennende besøk av Pablo Castro fra OBRA Architects torsdag 19. april 2012!

OBRA Architects ble startet av argentinske Pablo Castro og amerikanske Jennifer Lee i New York City i 2000. OBRA Architects sine arbeid spenner fra møbel og interiør til bygninger og masterplaner. Deres arbeider har vært utstilt I hele verden, blandt annet i Museum of Modern Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the National Art Museum of China, the Deutsches Architekturmuseum. OBRA Architects vant også ‘PS1 MoMA Young Architects Program’ med deres installasjon BEATFUSE I 206! I 2012 åpnet OBRA sitt andre kontor med beliggenhet I Beijing. Various Architects AS ble etablert i 2008 av Jim Dodson og Ibrahim Elhayawan, begge to med 12 års erfaring fra Snøhetta. I løpet av de siste tre årene har Various Architects vunnet flere internasjonale designpriser og blitt premierte i åpne internasjonale konkurranser. Samarbeid og nettverksbygging står sentralt i kontorets arbeidsmetoder og dette har ført til spennende samarbeidsprosjekter med annerkjente kontorer som Diller Scofidio + Renfro (Munch og Stenersen konkurransen) og OMA’s Taipei Performing Arts Centre i Taiwan der VA partner Ibrahim Elhayawan ble innhentet som prosjektleder. Kontorets prosjekter har et fokus på nytenkning og miljø, noe som er tydelig i deres forslag til en 2.1km lang bevegelig støyskjerm for Schiphol Flyplass, og Skagen ØKOntor, et forslag til en lavenergi og CO2 bevisst kontorbygg i Haugesund. Partner/Arkitekt MNAL Jim Dodson vil fortelle om opplevelsene og prosjektene fra kontoret’s første tre år og deres strategier for å overleve som nyetablert kontor i krisetider.

Jeffrey Inaba is the Director of C-Lab, a think tank at Columbia University‘s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation which studies urbanism and architecture, and makes policy recommendations. In addition to being a faculty member at Columbia, Inaba has taught at UCLA, Harvard and SCI-Arc.

He is the Features Editor of Volume Magazine, and is the author of numerous publications, including the recent book ‘World of Giving.’ He and Rem Koolhaas co-directed the Harvard Project on the City and co-edited its book series including the Harvard Guide to Shopping and Great Leap Forward.

Ingeniørfirmaet Adams Kara Taylor (AKT) er en av verdens ledende aktører innen byggeteknikk. Firmaets tre partnere er Robin Adams, Hanif Kara, og Albert Williamson-Taylor. De har de siste 10 årene vært med på redefinere tradisjonell ingeniørkunst, og fremmet nytenkning innen komplekse geometrier og materialteknologi. Dette har i samarbeid med arkitekter som Zaha Hadid, FOA, Fosters og Thomas Heatherwick studio resultert i en rekke grensesprengende bygninger og arkitektoniske konsepter, hvor tekniske analyser og arkitektoniske prosesser er fusjonert.

AKT er for tiden involvert i prosjekteringen av nye Oslo S sammen med Space Group arkitekter.

Oslo har fått et forslag til arkitekturpoltikk presentert. Hva inneholder politikken? Hvilke tiltak medfører den, og hva vil eller skal den resultere i? Oslo Arkitektforening arrangerer debattmøte i Arkitektenes hus torsdag den 8. oktober klokken 19.00.

Forslaget til en arkitekturpolitikk for Oslo ligger til høring – og skal diskuteres. Utfallet av debatten skal foruten å påvirke politikken bl.a. benyttes i OAFs innspill til høringsdokumentet.

CITIES FOR SALE! PUBLIC – PRIVATE – AND SUSTAINABLE?

Who decides about the future of our cities? Based on which arguments? Where are the most important decisions made? Kaarin Taipale will talk about the privatization of the urban public sphere (not just urban space but infrastructure, services and the political realm) and ask if that has anything to do with sustainable urban development. She’ll try to illustrate the impacts of economic globalization at the local level. She’ll argue that we are in the process of loosing the public sphere, which in turn would erode the foundations of democracy. Without local democracy, however, it will not be possible to formulate goals like sustainable (urban) development.

Kaarin Taipale is an urban researcher at the Center for Knowledge and Innovation Research of the Helsinki School of Economics, Finland. Her areas of expertise are urban sustainability, and the impact of economic globalization on cities. She is also the Chair and coordinator of the UN-initiated Marrakech Task Force on Sustainable Buildings and Construction with Finland as lead country. The Task Force advocates for the need for local and national policies and legislation to secure the sustainability of construction, use and maintenance of the built environment. As Chair of ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability in 2000-2003 she was a political representative of local government, and expert on urban issues in several United Nations and other intergovernmental meetings including the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, 2002. A Finnish national, Kaarin Taipale studied architecture at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich), Switzerland, and has also obtained a master’s degree in historic preservation from Columbia University in New York, USA. Kaarin Taipale was a member of the global Holcim Awards jury in 2006, and a member of the Academic Committee for the Holcim Forum in 2007. Kaarin Taipale became a Council Member of the World Future Council in 2007 and Advisory Board member of the Bianca Jagger Human Rights Foundation in 2008.

David Chipperfield Architects has offices in London, Berlin and Milan, and a representative office in Shanghai. After receiving his Diploma from the Architectural Association in London he worked at the practices of Douglas Stephen, Richard Rogers and Norman Foster and in 1984 established his own practice, David Chipperfield Architects. The practice currently has over 120 staff from 15 countries, and is working on a variety of projects in Europe, the United States and China. In 2008 the office won three RIBA awards. Chipperfield is the architect for the reconstruction of the destroyed Neues Museum in Berlin, due to reopen in 2009.

Ricciotti betrakter arkitektur som en mulighetenes konfliktsone; hvor blandingen av det minimale og det ekspressive, det skjønne og det stygge bringes sammen og kulminerer i en arkitektur som Ricciotti kaller “impure” – uren. Ricciotti praktiserte på 80-tallet en “hedonistisk” form for arkitektur; -en undersøkelse av romlig og formalt begjær. Mens hans tidlige arbeider karakteriseres av en radikal, bekymringsløs og energisk tilnærming til faget, ble arbeidene hans på 90-tallet i høyere grad preget av en kritisk, radikal holdning til samtiden og dens arkitektur. Bygningene hans ble etterhvert strengere og mer funksjonelle, og benytter seg av minimalistiske og lavteknologiske løsninger.

Francois Roche er en radikal arkitekt og debbatør som har kontoret R&Sie(n) i Paris sammen med Stephane Lavaux. Han arbeider konseptuelt, kritisk og fortellende, like mye samfunnsaktør som arkitekt. Han er for tiden ansatt ved Columbia University i New York. Denne kvelden holder han forelesningen Pink Dystopia på OAF. (sakset fra OAF sitt vårprogram)

Atelier Bow-Wow har siden kontoret ble etablert i Tokyo i 1992 av arkitektene Yoshiharu Tsukamoto(f.1965) og Momoyo Tsukamoto (f.1969) tegnet og bygget en rekke bygninger, installasjoner, utstillinger og møbler i tillegg til produksjon av flere bøker – bla to guider til Tokyo.
