Musician, writer, painter, enigma, cultural icon, legend – all of these and more apply to John Hamper, aka Billy Childish, an artist the world is waking up to. In 30 years time, he is reputed to have published 30 collections of poetry, written 3 novels, painted over 3000 pictures, and recorded over 100 LP´s with Punk, Rock’n Roll and Medway-Delta Blues, and for starting the art movement Stuckism. He is known for his explicit and prolific work, and is a consistent advocate for amateurism and free emotional expression.

Accepted no less than four times in three years on the ‘genius clause’, but before completing the course at St. Martins school of art, he left the institution in 1981. Billy Childish has trodden his own highly individual artistic path, rejecting the contemporary London Brit Art establishment and staying firmly rooted in Chatham, fine-tuning his art. His paintings portraits himself and his friends, and narrative episodes from his life. He is an iconoclast and a modern day ‘back to basics’, painting-in-oils artist. His pictures also makes covers for his books and records, and illustrations for his poems and stories. Highly personal and uncompromising, his writings are raw, unmediated, bruisingly shocking in their candour and utter lack of sentimentality.

Tropical Islands and Depots

En flyhangar fra krigen utenfor Berlin er omgjort til et tropisk badeland, og et av stedene Sabina Jacobsson henter idéer fra til sitt prosjekt Holiday Home – en konstruert virkelighet. Hanne Rangul tar utgangspunkt i et lite industriområde nord for Oslo, Berger Industrifelt, som nå resirkulerer plast, men som tidligere er brukt til annen industri og derfor med flere tomme bygg og formålsløse maskiner.
